Afghanistan will never become terrorists’ safe haven: MoD

AT Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Spurning the comments of the chairman of the United States Joint Chief of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey who in interview said that Afghan forces are not well capable and he cannot rule out Afghanistan will become a safe haven for terrorists once again, Ministry of Defense in Kabul said Afghan forces are well capable and the land of Afghans will never fall into the hands of terrorists.
General Afzal Aman, the MoD operation director, the other day hit back at Gen. Dempsey for his pessimist views and said that Afghanistan would never again become a safe haven for terrorists.
“Afghan forces had great achievements, as they have the upper hand over the Taliban in almost all parts of the country,” Aman told Azadi Radio.
He hoped that Afghan forces would develop higher-level capabilities and would attract people’s support.
In the meantime, Najib Danish a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that Afghan security forces have enough capability to defend their soil against militants.
Jawed Kohistani, a political expert, said that in the face of recent spike in terror attacks Afghan security forces needed to develop more capabilities. “Afghan forces are now capable to defend Afghanistan’s sovereignty, however, they still lack enough equipment as well as professional training,” Kohistani added.
The US President Obama last month said that Afghanistan will never again be a breeding ground for terrorist attacks on the US, but Gen. Dempsey in his interview with the Fox news seemed to distance himself from that statement.
