I look like a fat ball: Farha Khan
Farah’s husband might be the one making Joker, but it looks like she’s the one with the real sense of humour. With her latest movie Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi she has now conquered all aspects of filmmaking, from directing to producing to acting. She plays the leading lady of the refreshingly fun film at the ripe young age of 47 and the audiences have already been smitten by the film promos. Excerpts from an interview:
What was the best part of working with Boman Irani in Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi?
I have known Boman for many years and he has also done Main Hoon Na (directed by Farah). One of the biggest reasons I agreed to do this film was because Boman was in it. Which is why when people say we have wonderful chemistry, it’s because we are so comfortable with each other. I know his wife, I have been to his son’s wedding… all these things combined helped me a lot.
Do you remember any funny incident on the sets?
All I can think of is the scene where Boman was shooting in just a bath towel. Incidentally, my mother-in-law and my children were visiting the sets that day. They saw Boman in just a towel and my mother-in-law…gosh, what she must have thought of me!
I think she thought I was doing some C-grade film or something. We did not know what we were shooting for or else I wouldn’t have taken my family on the sets that day.
Were you uncomfortable about doing anything in this film?
I wasn’t very comfortable with the kissing scene and I told [director] Bela [Bhansali Sehgal] at the very start that I wouldn’t be doing a kissing scene. I didn’t want my family to see me doing something like that. Bela tried her best, every second day to make me do one but I was not having any of it.
We heard the night schedules were particularly tough for you?
Nobody likes to shoot at night and half of our film has been shot at night. We would always complain about how unfair it was, but that is a job too.
I have three kids at home who have to be sent to school and then picked up after that, so for me it became a 24-hour working day. At times, I would fall asleep in the middle of my scenes. Poor Boman would be trying to act all romantic and intense and the next thing you know my snoring would be his answer.
If you were given charge of your character, would you write her any differently?
No, I think she has been written perfectly for the role. I would have liked to lose some weight though. I look like a fat round ball in this film. I would have liked to lose those couple of inches around my waist.--(Blitz Media)
